The votes are in, counted and announced for the 10th Annual OzHipHop Awards. Melbourne man Seth Sentry, just announced as main support on LL Cool J’s upcoming Authentic tour, took away two awards: Best Male MC and Best Album for debut This Was Tomorrow. Other multi-award winners include Golden Era (Best Free Release and Best Crew) and Maundz (Best Verse, Best Track and Best Posse Track).
Continuing her reign as Hip Hop Queen, despite only releasing one solo album eight years ago, Layla claimed her sixth crown for Best Female MC. Manaz II claimed an ultimate prize as Best Battle MC and famous face M-Phazes was selected as Best Producer.
This year saw the introduction of a new category – Head Of State – which recognises entities commited to the growth and support of Australian hip hop. This category is unique, as it includes groups who are not specifically artists. For example, taking out Head Of State NSW is Hau (Koolism) for his work on triple j’s Hip Hop Show.
Adelaide’s Hilltop Hoods took out the Best Filmclip category for Rattling The Keys To The Kingdom (see below) and K21 was chosen as South Australian Head Of State.
