Once again the opportunity will arise for an emerging Australian hip hop/soul artist to catapult their career with a $10,000 grant.

Considering financial issues often attribute to why many artists can’t produce and manufacture an album, this grant looks to help cut those costs and ensure the future for Australian hip hop artists. As well as the grant, the winner will receive legal advice (another big expense) and a Shure microphone prize pack.

To apply, you need to be:
– An Australian hip hop/soul based artist or group who is the early stages of your career and has not yet released and album professionally.
-An Australian citizen or you must have been a legal Australian resident for the past two years.
-Applied for, or an existing, member of APRA.

The money can be used for mastering, CD artwork and design, marketing and promotional materials, manufacturing and administrative costs, but not for recording, merchandising or equipment purchases.

Check out the winner of the 2011 grant, Run For Your Life below.

Applications for the Hilltop Hoods Initiative open Tue Jan 15 and close on Tue Jan 26. The grant recipient will be announced on Thu Mar 28. For more info visit the APRA-AMCOS website.
