Crippen Place’s newest addition to their nightclub family has been making leaps to nurture new and experimental music talents. With this in mind, Mr Kim’s Records has been created as a platform for listeners to be able to experience their music outside of the venue. This December they dropped their first release, an original track called Looking For The Real Thing by Kurt & Russell, with more offering on their way.
Looking For The Real Thing is a smooth display of post-disco pop that is both catchy and versatile, fitting any situation from grooving along with a cocktail in hand in the early hours of the morning to mellowing out on the long bus-ride home. Mr Kim’s Records term this effect as “double disco happiness”, as it makes you not only want to dance, but feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.
Keeping with the authenticity and quirky appeal that Mr Kim’s has become known for, Looking For The Real Thing has been released as a genuine 12” vinyl for the enthusiasts, with a more iPod-friendly download also available. The original track is accompanied by three remixes featuring the likes of Chicago’s James Curd, Empire Of The Sun’s Sidwho? Florida’s Sleazy McQueen and Space Coast and Australia’s Harris Robotis.
This is an impressive feat by a new local nightspot that is determined to make sure they push the average in terms of a usual Adelaide nightclub experience.
Considering dusting off the record player for this one was worth it, we expect big things from future releases, with the next release being Let’s Work by Lady Drewniak out in February. On board for Let’s Work is heavyweight Chicago producer Paul Johnson, with a preview already available on Soundcloud.
