Jay Z: Magna Carta…Holy Grail

If you can forget the irony of Kurt Cobain’s lyrics being used in an album released as a Samsung app, you might enjoy listening to this album. With a host of big names on Magna Carta…Holy Grail, Jay Z teams up with Justin Timberlake on the opening track Holy Grail which is a pop song ruined by the karaoke-style singing of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Picasso Baby, proves the album is a mixed bag. With a heavy and simple beat, reminiscent of some of his earlier albums, Jay Z boasts of his fame and wealth, takes shots at mainstream media, and generally complains about problems only the one percent face.

Magna Carta…Holy Grail does have some solid beats and hooks, reminiscent of Jay Z’s earlier albums, and this can be attributed to Timbaland who produced the record.

Other than that, it appears that Jay Z is simply running out of things to rap about, but hey, $600 million will do that to you.
