Skirt is the first release for Kylie Minogue since she signed to Jay-Z‘s record label, Roc Nation. Skirt was co-written by The-Dream, who has worked with Beyonce‘s album 4 as well as Mary J Blige. Nom De Strip produced the track, who commented on the sudden boost of plays on his Soundcloud since Skirt‘s release on Twitter.
Signing to Roc Nation and releasing Skirt marks a new direction for Minogue for what will be her 12th studio album. All indications so far show that it will have a heavier hip hop influence that we’ve seen from the poptastic KM in the past, especially considering that Fernando Garibay, Pharrell Williams, Darkchild, Sia and Jay-Z are all on board as producers and collaborators.
It’s been a difficult road for Kylie on her journey to break the notoriously fickle American market, with the release of Skirt coinciding with her 45th birthday. With this kind of entourage walking in a ‘V’ behind her, this could very well be her best chance yet.
Good luck, Charlene!
Check out Kylie’s new Skirt now.
