Kelis has been working diligently on her sixth studio album, which currently has the working title FOOD. The album, which will be a follow up to 2010’s Flesh Tone, is being produced by TV On The Radio‘s Dave Sitek.
Last year the ex-Mrs Nas premiered the Skream-produced song Distance, although it isn’t known if Distance will feature on FOOD or not. Kelis promised FOOD to be more electro, deeper and darker when she spoke to NME at last year’s Isle Of Wright Festival, reporting she was halfway through making it.
Although FOOD isn’t expected until September, Kelis has released its first track, the aptly-named Jerk Ribs. Hopefully the entire album is food themed, given the success she enjoyed with 2003’s Milkshake.
Jerk Ribs has a funkier influence to it than some of Kelis’ more bitey past offerings, with a killer horn and percussion section. Take a listen below.
