After nearly a decade of absence, world-renowned DJ competition World DMC Championships will return to Adelaide this August to unearth some of the best turntablists in the state.
This year will mark the competition’s 30th anniversary, with SA heats kicking off at Rocket Bar on Sat Aug 3. From there, Adelaide’s finest DJs will battle it out for the chance to win a spot at the national final at Melbourne’s Revolver Bandroom on Sat Aug 31.
Previous World DMC champs include A-Trak, DJ Craze and the late Roc Raida, while Australia’s own DJ Dexter (formerly of The Avalanches) also secured second place to Craze way back in 2000.
SA’s own DJ Snair (of Social Change) was runner-up last year, while Adelaide’s Staen-1 has won three Australian titles in a row, finishing fifth in the world championships back in 2005 (check out his winning set below).
Even though South Australian DJs have kicked arse in the DMCs, heats haven’t been held here since 2004, making the Rocket Bar event a great opportunity for Adelaide’s spinners to showcase their skills. Aside from seeing Adelaide’s finest battle it out, the night will also feature DJ JRed with K21 on hosting duties.
