The Adelaide Festival Centre has announced a new fellowship program for aspiring Indigenous arts workers.
The 2015/2016 Steel Ryan Fellowship is a 12 month fellowship for individuals who want to develop a career in the arts, and will place a particular focus on the programming and marketing of Indigenous work.
The successful candidate will also work on the GreenRoom program (the centre’s membership program for 18 to 30 year olds) and pushing for more younger, multicultural audiences.
The expanded program looks set to continue the work of the original Steel Fellowship with a renewed focus on diversity and inclusivity.
Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier said the new program has been made possible through an endowment from Adelaide Festival Chair Richard Ryan AO.
“For many years the Adelaide Festival Centre has nurtured the careers of young arts administrators under auspices of the Anthony Steel fellowship, named for the AFC’s first director Anthony Steel,” he said.
“This year, following a generous donation by former AFC Chairman and current Chairman of the Adelaide Festival Richard Ryan, we are able to offer the Steel Ryan Fellowship with a focus on the programming and audience development for indigenous work. We are grateful to both Anthony and Richard for their continued support and mentorship for the Adelaide Festival Centre.”

GreenRoom Advocacy
The Adelaide Festival Centre has also opened applications for its GreenRoom Advocacy program for 2015. The program aims to assist young people who are interested in working in the arts with the opportunity to develop their professional skills.
This year advocates will work on the Come Out Children’s Festival and participate in a workshop with professional actors to develop their own character to help direct children around the festival.
They will also be involved in various behind the scenes projects during Come Out, as well as gaining professional development during the festival with visiting artists, culminating in the creation of their own interactive tour that will be presented to primary school students in November.
