A$AP Rocky joins The Avengers

Words by Walter Marsh February 8, 2016

A$AP Rocky is set to join the Marvel Universe in a new game that features a host of celebrities stepping in to voice Marvel’s greatest heroes as University-age teenagers.

Like a cross between X-Men First Class and the Avengers franchise, mobile-based game Marvel Avengers Academy will feature the likes of Dave Franco as young Iron Man, Alison Brie as young Black Widow, Colton Haynes as young Thor, Kiernan Shipka as Spider-Woman and John Cena as Hulk.

A$AP Rocky, due to tour Australia next week, will voice the Falcon AKA Sam Wilson, played on the big screen by Anthony Mackie. As SPIN points out, A$AP Rocky revealed the news over his Facebook page.

It’s the latest in Marvel’s range of multimedia projects reimagining their key heroes as teenagers to net that lucrative children-with-access-to-their-parents’-app-store-passwords market. Sure, it doesn’t make a lick of sense for thousand year demi-God Thor to be hanging out with a young Tony Stark, but then, it’s also a bit macabre that young Tony also has an fancy hi-tech reactor in his chest to prevent shrapnel from destroying his heart. That’s some heavy subtext, guys.
