On Friday March 20, DEPARTURE is returning to the Art Gallery of South Australia for the first event of the 2015 season.
Lovers of art (and wine) have the opportunity to check out the exhibition Bill Viola: Selected Works as part of DEPARTURE: Elemental. As one of the world’s most established living artists, Bill Viola has been influential in cementing video as an important medium in contemporary art.
Presented by the Adelaide Festival in association with the Art Gallery of South Australia, the exhibition will feature the most comprehensive selection of Viola’s works ever curated in Australia, and showcase how the artist channels elemental forces to evoke themes of birth, death, transcendence and transformation.
On the musical tip, DJ BottleRockets will be supplying beats in the sculpture courtyard, with dance duo Tyson Olson and Great Wyatt performing their piece we: at a junction which has been choreographed as a reflection on Viola’s work The Crossing.
