Spandex bell-bottoms, velvet scrunchies, lime green fanny packs. All things you should avoid wearing, unless attending Art Gallery of SA’s new Friday night soiree, Fashion Icons Up Late.
In celebration of the latest exhibition Fashion Icons, an exquisite display of haute couture garments by world-leading fashion designers, Friday nights at the gallery will transform into an era of fashion and culture through the 50s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
Tonight’s bash opens with the glamorous 50s. From Edith Piaf’s eyebrows to Audrey Hepburn’s cigarette holder, the night will take you back to a time when rock and roll was first kicking off and food was mostly served in gelatine moulds.
Some of Adelaide’s flourishing young fashion designers will speak throughout the series, with Jaime Sortino at tonight’s event, as well as Greta Rumsby (GretaKate) and Paul Vasilef (Paolo Sebastian). You will also get the chance to join in on a guided tour of the exhibition, enjoy live performances or lie back on the lawns to watch a classic flick – beginning tonight with Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Local mixer DJ Tr!p will also be on-trend and playing through the decades each week. So put on your blue suede shoes and party with style on Fridays at the Art Gallery until the sun goes down.
