Full Garden of Unearthly Delights program revealed

Words by Walter Marsh December 1, 2015

Next year’s Adelaide Fringe program has been gradually swelling over the past few weeks, and now with the newly revealed 2016 Garden of Unearthly Delights lineup our famously hectic festival season is really taking shape.

With big, reliable names like Wil Anderson, Dave Hughes and Kate Miller-Heidke already announced, the full spread boasts a dizzying selection of familiar and new acts from right across the entertainment spectrum. Returning to the Garden next year is Velvet, the crowdpleasing disco collaboration between Marcia Hynes and Brendan MacLean, the world’s most famous sad clown Puddles Pity Party and Le Gateau Chocolat in a new show with Johnny Woo exploring the world of musicals. There’s also Hannah Gadsby, Kate Ceberano, Sammy J & Randyland, The Axis of Awesome, Germein Sisters and Tom Ballard.

“We cannot wait for 2016, it’s going to be an incredible season,” the Garden’s Michelle Buxton says of the program. “There are over 100 different shows to choose from including music, circus, theatre, dance, cabaret and this year we even have visual arts. You are guaranteed to find something you will love.”

Interesting new additions include tongue-in-cheek Jurassic Park remake Dinosaur Park, Guardian cartoonist First Dog On The Moon, and Massaoke – that’s mass karaoke for the uninitiated. While previous Adelaide arts festivals have dabbled in the mysterious art form, with an 800 capacity this Edinburgh hit looks set to take it to new, ridiculous heights.

Local highlights include The Audreys, Melbourne-based Adelaide expat Demi Lardner, Peter Combe and Hans. Factor in the usual mix of food, stalls, rides and stand up comedians crammed into every nook, tent and cranny that Rymill Park can hold, it should be another big year.
