Gilles Street Market ends 2014 with year’s biggest event

Words by December 5, 2014

Sunday, December 7, will see Gilles Street Market celebrate the Christmas season with the year’s biggest market. For the third year running, the popular market will become the monumental Grand Bazaar, featuring over 140 stalls.

Gilles Street Market has been a destination for bargain hunters and supporters of local business since its humble beginnings in 2008.

The Christmas event is a huge part of the Adelaide creative scene, as young jewellers, fashion designers, artists, craftspeople and more gather to present their works. High quality vintage and upcycled wares are always on offer.

Live art presented by Helpmann Academy will be underway, with artists sketching and drawing over the course of the market.

The message event manager Jennifer Centenera wants Adelaide to hear is: “Buy local, support local should be at the front of our minds this Christmas.”

Aside from stallholders and delicious food (Veggie Velo is a star attraction), Gilles Street Market has been dedicated to a strong local music program. This Sunday, tunes will be provided by Aidan Jazzy Jones, Alice Haddy, Sean Howard and Abbey Howlett.
