An Adelaide-based Facebook page about ‘Sneans’ is going viral, and South Australians are unknowingly becoming world famous for the style.
Sneans has been operating for over a year, but only recently started to reach massive audiences. Over the last week it has gone from having 10,000 to over 15,000 fans. And still climbing!
In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, you sneathen you, it’s the rockin’ combo of jeans and sneakers that combines the practicality of cross trainers with the easygoing style of denim. It’s a look popularised by Jerry Seinfeld in the 90s:
But we’re pretty sure South Australia’s own Peter Combe has been rocking it for just as long.
And our chief export to Europe Guy Sebastian is such a fan of the look he’s been known to extend the white-on-denim colour scheme to entire photoshoots:
Now, before we’re accused of sneanophobia we’d like to take this opportunity to point out that there are some really good reasons to snean:
– Effective arch support
– Slightly more fashionable than wearing sneakers and no pants at all
– The perfect base look upon which to go full Canadian tuxedo
That said, sneakers and jeans are the star-crossed lovers of fashion; it feels so right, but no good can come of it. Adelaide, we’ve got to talk about our snean addiction.
The whole world might not yet know about our style setup, but it’s only a matter of time before word gets out. The Sneans page doesn’t mention its town of origin in the About section, but for the observant snean lover there remains a distinctly South Australian theme in many of the pictures. See if you too can recognize these sneans-centric locations:
Aha! Adelaide public transport upholstery!
There are also some more obviously Adelaide located sneans snaps:
Also, the commentary on the pictures is heavily inspired by Triple M, and Adelaide boy James Brayshaw. It’s real good sort of gear:
What the hell!
According to the page’s anonymous admin many of the people submitting to the page aren’t actually from Adelaide. “90% of the pictures I get sent in are from Vic or NSW,” he says, adding that there’s even “a strong following in New Zealand”. He also clarifies that he’s “definitely pro snean! I’m all for people wearing what they want and not conforming. Be proud of them!”
But despite the page’s international credentials, the evidence of our state’s love of the sneans is clear:
No, you can’t duck out of a shot while seated, also @DanielTalia12 wore sneans yesterday and two pairs of sunnies. pic.twitter.com/V0aXRjn0so
