Meet Jordan Bishop: a local fashion designer making it big both at home and overseas. Jordan owns Closet Mod, a gorgeous 1960s inspired fashion label that she has meticulously designed and sewn all herself.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen it while wandering down Regent Arcade where she currently works out of a shop front and studio with the support of Renew Adelaide.

Jordan’s journey started after studying Costume for Performance at AC Arts, learning how to sew and finding a passion for creating her own unique pieces of clothing. The 1960s Mod scene was always the clear starting point for her designs and accurately reflecting the fashion movement was really important to her. It’s only been recently that she has started incorporating more modern elements into her designs.

The strong Mod influence is also responsible for her client base in the UK, where the mod scene is really big. After discovering the label on Instagram – the power of social media amirite? – customers from all corners of the globe including Canada and Poland have been buying her designs.

“It’s actually kind of sad thinking that my clothes have been to more places than I have!” she jokes.

While she has created custom pieces in the past, her real love is for her own special designs which customers can order in their own size. This is the product of someone who has a specific and strong creative vision, which Jordan clearly has.

On being asked where she sees Closet Mod in five years, she says that she hopes it will grow online as well as be stocked in boutiques around Australia.

“I would also like to see my designs being made on a larger scale and featuring my own prints,” she says. “These are both things I’m working on at the moment.”
