Once you knock off work tonight, wander down to Regent Arcade to celebrate with seven new stores, run by local creatives. You may be familiar with some of the names and faces already: Have You Met Charlie? was part of the Charles St Plaza/Do Stop Buy project; Closet Mod and Boo & Who? have been on the market circuit for one and two years respectively; Created Range appeared at Mr Ist not that long ago.

We popped by the shops this morning, ahead of the launch party at 6pm tonight.
Although Sarah Rothe Jewellery and Potted Thoughts weren’t yet open, we stuck our noses into the other five.
Boo & Who?
Zuki & Boo is a well-established candle brand – homemade and Adelaidean – run by Bec Lane and named for her cats. Branching out into a bricks-and-mortar means Lane has expanded her range, becoming Boo & Who?. Part florist, part candler, the shop is a gorgeous mix of beautiful design and delightful scents. With tables laden with plant life out the front, there’s no way to miss this one.

Closet Mod
This impressive little store is perfect for the 60s-style clothes individually made by Jordan Bishop. The neat little touches – Warhol-style cans and a simple line-up of records – add a cute twist on the all-white space. Bishop studied costume design at AC Arts and each piece is skilfully realised. Bishop has set up her sewing machine in-store, so you might get to witness some behind-the-scenes action too. As a one-woman effort, Closet Mod is extremely demanding with Bishop maintaining her market and online presence while managing the new city shop.

Created Range
This eye-catching beauty is the brainchild of artist Dave Court. Above the racks of shirts is a line of canvases – more of Court’s art. The striking backwall is another of his pieces. While Dave’s ethical label foolsandtrolls is one major brand, Created Range stocks an impressive list of Adelaide designers; it’s going to be a one-stop for super creative homegrown work.

Average Cat
Across from Potted Thoughts is this dark, roomy space Average Cat is a streetwear label that cuts traditional styles with bold patterns and pop culture motifs. Headed by designer and artist Van Vlassis, Average Cat has been doing the rounds in Adelaide for a few years, but this is the first time the label has set up shop.

Have You Met Charlie?
Since Charlie opened in Charles St Plaza a few weeks ago, the ladies from Mint Cloud (jewellery) and Coloured Pears (artwork and homewares) have gathered new friends and suppliers. Their new Regent Arcade haunt is much cosier, as the space is smaller and there’s more to fill it with. They actually moved in ahead of the pack, so they’re super ready to go. The colourful collection is chockers with jewellery, craft, artwork, clothing and trinkets. Charlie chooses to source their sale material from local Australian designers and businesses, supporting a whole network of small labels.
