Adelaide Fringe Augmented Reality App Unlocks Stories Behind Street Art

Words by Staff Writer January 5, 2016

Ever viewed a piece of art and felt like you wanted to know more about the artist and the making-of the work? Well folks, welcome to the future.

The global app company BlippAR and Adelaide Fringe are about to open your eyes to a new kind of art viewing experience. Using augmented reality (AR) and computer vision technology, BlippAR is bringing the Adelaide Fringe’s Street Art Explosion to life by giving the audience access into the mind of the artist.

What is Augmented Reality?

AR is technology that allows digital information to be displayed on top of real world items when you point your smartphone/tablet or wearable at the said object.

This technology allows digital information to be integrated with the real life environment in real time. Put simply, AR takes an existing picture – in the case of the Street Art Explosion, a mural -and brings it to life with video, music, text or animation.

What is BlippAR?

BlippAR are an augmented reality app company that brings the physical world to life via smart handheld devices. Using the BlippAR app, you can launch mobile games, music, PDFs, video, or any type of content compatible with your smart device to create an immersive AR experience.

How Does BlippAR Work?

BlippAR uses the camera on your mobile device to recognise images and show you dynamic digital content on your screen called ‘blipps’.

Using the BlippAR augmented reality app is super easy, here’s what you do.

Step 1: Download the free BlippAR app for Android, iOS (Apple) or Windows Phone.

Step 2: Keep an eye out for the BlippAR logo when visiting the Street Art Explosion sites:

Step 3: Take out your smart device, aim and frame the image, and ‘blipp’ away.

Blipping activates the AR technology and displays the content right on top of the image by tracking it in 3D space.
