Hindley Street venue Dog and Duck announced their closure today by posting to Facebook a stock image of a weeping cartoon dog.
The statement on their page reads, “The biggest factor to this decision is the lock out law, it has changed the way people party, it has pushed people to go to there local hotels instead of coming into town.”
The venue also cites the economic downturn and a decrease in disposable incomes as a reason for the end of a sticky era. The statement can be read in full below.
The bar has promised to leave their Facebook page active, so all the ‘photos and memories’ can be accessed at punters’ will.
Ducks have flocked to social media to express their feelings.
Sad to here that the Dog and Duck is closing it’s doors today. I spent a fair chunk of my early djing career… http://t.co/3eEweB8ANT

I’m gonna miss dog and duck because everyone that goes there regularly is very average looking, and it increased my self esteem — ash (@1_sutherland) February 5, 2015
And with Dog and Duck gone, when will we ever be able to relevantly use these pictures again??

Dog and Duck statement
Dog and duck with a heavy heart has to announce that as of today we will not be reopening. Many factors have come into play with this decision. The biggest factor to this decision is the lock out law, it has changed the way people party, it has pushed people to go to there local hotels instead of coming into town. The economic state this country is in also played a big part, there is less money to drink and party.
We would like to thank all our loyal patrons for there patronage over the last 8 years. The facebook page will remain up for now so people will have access to all there photos and memory’s. Thanks again.
