Vitalstatistix will display art at Laneway 2015

Words by December 16, 2014

Last month we revealed that Vitalstatistix would not bring back their local stage at Laneway Festival 2015, instead curating a visual art display inside the Waterside Workers Hall.

The live arts company has now revealed plans to turn the venue into a haven of art featuring the work of South Australian artists and musicians.

In 2015 the space will transform into an industrial landscape as designed by artist – and Rule of Thirds vocalist – Celeste Aldahn. There will also be two video installations: a new iteration of Paul Gazzola’s Street Walks series, filmed in Port Adelaide and depicting the meditative and durational act of walking; and Rule of Thirds member Lewis Godwin’s work featuring archival footage alongside live filming inside the venue in a psychedelic collage of the music festival experience.

Over the course of the day music collective and label Untzz Twelve Inch will provide beats from their roster of local DJs and producers.

“Following the great collaboration last year with Format Collective, we are thrilled to work with the Laneway team again to provide opportunities for South Australian artists within this iconic festival and to create a great experience within our hall as part of the day,” Vitalstatistix Creative Producer Emma Webb says.

“Each year we plan to invite and commission artists and artist-run-initiatives to create a new space within our heritage-listed hall, and in 2015 we are delighted to work with Celeste Aldahn, Paul Gazzola, Lewis Godwin and Untzz.”

“Festival goers can find a specially designed bar environment here at Waterside and be treated to experimental video art alongside great local DJs.”

Last month Laneway producers 5/4 Entertainment told Rip It Up the arts company, who inhabit the Port Adelaide venue year-round, were keen to work with a range of Adelaide creatives.

“Vitalstatistix wanted to tap into different creative communities, so we gave them the right to choose,” 5/4’s Craig Lock said.
