WOMADelaide has unveiled the full program for its series of Planet Talks workshops and panels. Having led with leading Climate Change commentator David Suzuki, the expanded program now features the likes of US academic and author Naomi Oreskes, co-founder of the Eden Project Sir Tim Smit and triple j’s resident science wiz Dr. Karl Kruzelnicki.
Smit will join Suzuki and author Indira Naidoo (also former presenter of totally underrated ABC show Feedback) to discuss the emotional undertones of the Climate Change debate. Kruzelnicki will appear alongside UniSA’s Professor Tanya Monro to unpack how just much stock the general public put in scientists. In a time of widespread misinformation, bloggers standing in for health experts, vested media interests and unattributed social media memes, it’s an timely debate to have.
Other events include Words, Pictures and Climate Change Pitches, which will tackle the PR war muddying the water of our national Climate Change debate in conversation with Walkley-winning cartoonist First Dog On The Moon, and authors, PR experts and Gruen Transfer regulars Dee Madigan and Jane Caro.
If getting your hands dirty sounds like a more appealing form of environmental action than listening to panels, there will also be a workshop offering tips on getting your own home compost regime up and running. For the particularly green greenthumbs among us Professor John Boland and Chris Bryant will offer wisdom on how to establish and maintain a sustainable garden.
Planet Talks will run alongside a pretty tidy looking musical lineup that so far includes the likes of the Violent Femmes, Angélique Kidjo andSeun Kuti & Egypt 80, Husky, Calexico, Ibeyi, NO ZU and many more.
WOMADelaide 2016 runs from Friday, March 11 to Monday, March 14. Find out how to win a four day pass for you and a mate here.
