Ahir Shah: Distant
3.5 3.5Debuting his Australian show at the Adelaide Fringe, Ahir Shah is best described as dynamic, eloquent, intelligent and honest. Distant is used as a medium to voice his opinions of current affairs, whilst integrating family history and personal life… much like most comedians… however, Ahir differs in the powerful delivery of his moral stance, articulating an intellectual depth and sincerity without the need for multiple profanities.
Being a preview show, Ahir was transparent about his lack of narrative and slightly fragmented choice of content, and this may have impacted on the audience reception to his humorous and witty jibes. Additionally, some stories, which may have appealed more to British kinfolk, also lost their context but he was able to insert some Australian references to his advantage.
Whilst relatively new to these parts of the world, Ahir Shah will not take long to make his name known. If you appreciate a comic with sharp and savvy insights, from ISIS to Western decadence, and quitting smoking to being a vegetarian, than spend 50 minutes in a small room with him – even if it’s just to hear his ridiculously posh accent.
Ahir Shah: Distant continues at Producers Cranny until Sunday, March 13th.
