Is That A Burrito In Your Pocket Or Are You Just Happy To Have A Burrito

4 4

This show is not about burritos; you’ve been warned.

It is about climbing out of ‘slut’ windows and ugly celebrity crushes. In her debut solo show Lauren Bok covers every aspect of life from periods to polygamy.

Like all Melbourne comedians she began with a dig at the suburb of Elizabeth. But once this was over, Bok moved on to more substantial content like impersonations of her housemate’s Chihuahua and texting her mum.

Bok does not stand still, miming and strutting her way through her dating history and casting call experiences. She worked up a sweat in the tiny room but luckily she had a towel on hand. No one said comedy was glamorous.

Even though she slipped in some dad jokes, Bok is clearly an experienced performer who never hesitates and exudes a distinct confidence. Her face oozed with expression and she handled the crowd perfectly. Who could resist a Joseph Gordon-Levitt poster?

Is That A Burrito In Your Pocket… is about the awkward, weird and sometimes sticky moments in life. Bok ended her show by dancing sensually with a tortilla, something words truly cannot convey.

Life is like a burrito, and as Bok will show you, sometimes you have to fuck it before it fucks you.

Is That A Burrito In Your Pocket Or Are You Just Happy To Have A Burrito continues at Producers Cranny until March 13.
