Half Hour Hamlet
4.5 4.5Have you ever wanted to get into Shakespeare, but found the language too hard to wrap your head around? Half Hour Hamlet is the show for you. Patrick Hercamp chops up and reassembles the Bard for this year’s Adelaide Fringe audiences in a way that everyone will get a kick out of.
Half Hour Hamlet rushes through a 30 minute explanation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays using modern language, a touch of the pantomime, and lots of good humour. Despite only one man performing every role, somehow it doesn’t get confusing. It feels like someone who is just super into Shakespeare is explaining the whole story to you before you have to leave to catch a train. And it works.
Shakespeare’s stories have been well-loved for hundreds of years, and it’s for good reason. Patrick has the acting chops to get loud laughs from the actively involved crowd, and still bring us to enthralled silence throughout the more poignant scenes. Whether you’re an English major who loves the Bard, a fan of hectic comedy with audience participation, or someone who just wants to experience a beautiful tragedy in a new way, get along to see Half Hour Hamlet.
Half Hour Halmet continues at the Producers Garden until Sunday, March 13.
