Love, Loss and Lattes
4 4Missy’s Love, Loss and Lattes is a stunning show filled with impressive circus stuntwork. She has based the show around her relationship with coffee, and though the set and sound design are both quite minimalist they are used effectively to keep coffee in the crowd’s mind while Missy dazzles us. The show opens with the sounds of a coffee machine at a busy cafe, and Missy’s first routine involves a coffee cup and a pole.
The show’s second number was one of my favourites: a dance representing the addictive side of Missy’s love of coffee, it didn’t involve any of the stunt props, but had an almost underworld vibe to it thanks to the red wash and otherworldly music.
Overall, the show managed to play to its strengths by keeping the audience’s attention firmly on the amazing feats of dexterity and grace that Missy could perform, managing to communicate its theme without ever letting it detract from the fundamental pleasure of the performance.
Love, Loss and Lattes continues at Live from Tandanya Theatre until Sunday, February 28.
