Two former Adelaide-based musicians have resurfaced in brand new Sydney-based project Annie Bass, with a debut single hitting the internet today.
As the leader of pop outfit Archie, Annabel Weston was a regular on Adelaide stages for several years. For a while there Archie looked poised to blow up on the back of single Go Home, but instead the band dissipated and Weston herself reached escape velocity with a move to Sydney.
There she started writing with another Adelaide expat Matthew Morison (Rin & The Reckless, Alphabette), a fellow classically trained muso with an ear for heartstring-tugging melodies. Now the pair have unveiled the fruits of their labour in the first officially released Annie Bass track, While I’m Waiting.
Premiered on triple j last night, the track has Weston’s voice swimming in synths and subtly layered beats. Produced by frequent collaborator Oisima (she appeared on his Nicaragua Nights single Everything About Her), it’s a dizzying introduction to the project.
