Game of Thrones Season 6 is soon to grace our screens, and while the newly released first trailer answers none of the big questions from last year’s finale it does lay some typically bloody groundwork.
Opening with a shot of your old mate Jon Snow chilling in a pool of blood, we find all our Westeros favourites – or at least the characters who haven’t been killed off – at a various crossroads in their life.
Ser Davos has lost his crazy boss Stannis, Jaime Lannister’s got his daughter-niece Marcella killed, Ramsay’s wife and slave have escaped him, Melisandre’s starting to think ‘hey maybe the Lord of Light is just me being a bit insane’ and Cersei is not super pleased with her new “angry Mia Farrow” look after last season’s public humiliation.
How will they deal with all this trauma, you ask? Some kind of group therapy? Bikram yoga? A season where everyone agrees to just stay at home with Netflix until it all blows over?
Cersei, what do you reckon?
Well, of course you do.
Cue a montage of battles, bloodied swords and a bunch of gratuitous female nudity as if to reassure audiences that sure, showrunners Daniel Weiss and David Benioff might not have the road map of previously published George R.R. Martin books this season, but they’ve still got a firm grasp of what’s made the show so successful to the teenage boy market.
But we can’t help but spare a moment for Bran who sat out last season (poor choice of words) to get a haircut and finish puberty, re-emerging only to see just how fucked everything in Westeros has become.
Poor Bran.
