Back to the Future II promised that by October 21, 2015, we’d have a working hoverboard. A week early, that promise has been fulfilled. Now, admittedly, it doesn’t look like this:
It’s big, fan powered, and it probably can’t stay in the air for very long. If Griff and his gang come at you with a No Tech you’re going to be in trouble. However, it’s the closest thing we’ve seen to a real, practical, working hover board. And unlike Marty McFly’s borrowed Mattel, it does work on water.
Catalin Alexandru Duru, the inventor responsible for the board, and an incredible name, broke the Guinness World Record for longest hoverboard flight earlier this year. It went 275.9 metres in one and a half minutes. His new, next-generation creation, was developed in secret, and has only just been unveiled.
It all comes just as Toyota released a video reuniting Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Oh, what a feeling!
In other Back the Future II news, now’s as good as anytime to remind you that Nike have said they’re working on having ‘power laces’ that tighten themselves before the end of the year. Somebody’s already made a working prototype.
